ATTENDANCE, SICK AND TARDY POLICIES

Attendance is very important to us here at Magnolia.  To avoid receiving attendance letters remember that, for the entire school year

  • Tardies need to remain under four (4) ;and
  • Absences should remain under ten (10) .

Children are expected to be in school unless they are ill.

We understand that it may be difficult to stay up to date with when and when not to send your child to school. Please see the information below and always reach out to our Health Technician if you have any questions.

Any student who develops new, unexplained symptoms should not return to campus until it is clear that symptoms are mild and improving or are due to a non-infectious cause (e.g., allergies).

This includes waiting until 24 hours have passed since the beginning of a fever without the use of fever-reducing medications.

Additionally, if symptoms are concerning for COVID-19, it is strongly recommended that students wear a mask and get tested immediately. If positive, students should also follow CDPH recommendations for retesting and/or isolating if the results are positive.

Please call your child’s school office to report an absence or fill out the form at bit.ly/attendmag  If this is not possible, a note indicating the reason for the absence is required when your child returns to school.

Appointments: Doctor and dental appointments are the only excused absences.  We appreciate your efforts in having your child attend school any portion of a day when full attendance is not possible.  A telephone answering machine is available 24 hours a day to report absences.

Required Documents for Registration; Including Immunizations Required for Enrollment

Parents/Guardians and students:

You should keep the health technician informed of any special health matters, a change of address and/or emergency telephone numbers. Maintaining up to date information will assist in the case of an emergency.

The Magnolia health office is open during all school hours to provide basic first aid.  If your child becomes ill during the school day, the health office will contact you to come and pick up your child.

Special Medical Needs

If your child has any allergies, illnesses, or other issues (including medications they are taking at home) that either Magnolia staff, teachers, or emergency medical professionals would need to know on a daily basis or in the event of an emergency, it is the parents' responsibility to tell the school prior to your child's attendance.

Non-Routine Medical Care at School

If your child requires medical care at school, you will need to provide the school with a written health care plan from your child's doctor.  The school cannot administer prescription medications of any kind, or provide non-routine medical care without these written instructions.

If your child requires a health plan or 504 Plan, these must be submitted in writing prior to your child's start date.  If you have any questions about medical care or procedures at school, please contact the district nurse.

PREVENTING THE FLU

Here are a few things you can do to help prevent the spread of flu:

  • Teach your children to wash their hands often with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub. You can set a good example by doing this yourself.
  • Teach your children not to share personal items like drinks, food, or unwashed utensils.
  • Teach your children to cover their coughs and sneezes with tissues, or using the elbow, arm, or sleeve instead of the hand when a tissue is not available.

  • Know the signs and symptoms of the flu. Symptoms of the flu include fever (100 degrees Farenheight, 37.8 degrees Celsius or greater), cough, sore throat, a runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headaches, and feeling very tired. Keeping children with a fever at home will reduce the number of people who may get infected.
  • Do not send children to school if they are sick.  Any children who are determined to be sick while at school will be sent home.
